Woman Sues Boston Scientific Over Vaginal Mesh Product

A new lawsuit against Boston Scientific alleges that the company was negligent in producing the Prefyx PPS System, a vaginal mesh product. The lawsuit, filed in West Virginia, accuses the company of negligence, defective design and manufacturing, failure to warn, and breach of warranties.

The plaintiff, a Louisiana woman, was implanted with the vaginal mesh in 2007. After receiving the device, she claims to have experienced serious complications directly caused by the defective product. The lawsuit alleges that Prefyx PPS contains monofilament polypropylene mesh and/or collagen, which may be incompatible with human tissue. The result is that a person’s immune system can respond negatively to the implant, causing inflammation, chronic pain and infections.

Lawsuits Over Vaginal Mesh Mounting

This lawsuit is just one of many against Boston Scientific over its vaginal mesh products. Devices like the Prefyx PPS are designed to treat conditions like pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence. Lawsuits regarding vaginal mesh allege side effects such as severe and chronic pain, bleeding, infection, erosion or tearing of the mesh, organ perforation, urinary problems and painful intercourse. Some women have had to have the mesh surgically removed, which can cause further complications.
