Watch Out for Bicyclists During Tour de Palm Springs

Coachella Valley drivers should keep a lookout for bicyclists this weekend during the 20th annual Tour de Palm Springs. Thousands of cyclists will take to the streets beginning at 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

Where Can You Expect Bicyclists?

The ride begins at North Palm Canyon Drive and Alejo Road. There are four routes: a 100 mile, 50 mile, 25 mile and 10 mile. The shorter routes are confined to Palm Springs, but the longer ones go as far east as Thermal. Drivers can expect bicyclists on just about every major road, except for I-10 and Highway 111. All roads will remain open, save for the ones closest to downtown Palm Springs, where the ride begins.

Drivers are reminded to be cautious around bicyclists. Be patient while sharing the roads, and find alternate routes if you are uncomfortable driving near large groups of bicyclists. Additionally, remember to always keep a 3-foot distance from bicyclists.

“The Tour de Palm Springs is a fun event for bicyclists in our community. Let’s make sure we keep our roads safe for these riders this weekend,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
