Is Your Vehicle Part of Fiat Chrysler Recall?

A Fiat Chrysler recall will affect more than 1.1 million vehicles worldwide, including Dodge Chargers, Chrysler 300 sedans and Jeep Grand Cherokees. The problem involves the shift lever that puts the vehicles into gear. The cars have an electronic shift lever that must be moved forward or backward to select the gear, instead of a traditional gear lever that moves along a track. Apparently the lever has to be pushed forward three times to move from “drive” to “park.” Although the vehicle chimes a warning if the driver side door is open when the car is not in park, the engine remains on, which can cause the vehicle to roll away when it should be parked.

An investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) earlier this year discovered that the shift lever is not intuitive and does not provide the driver with sufficient tactile feedback. There have been at least 121 crashes related to the faulty lever.

Vehicles covered by the recall include 2012-14 Dodge Chargers, 2012-14 Chrysler 300 sedans and 2014-15 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs.

The fix will include updating the gear levers and enhancing warning signals if the vehicle is not in park.

You can visit the NHTSA website to see if your vehicle is included in the Fiat Chrysler recall.
