Uber Reaches Settlement with Family of Fatal Accident Victim

Uber has reached a settlement with the family of the woman who was killed by one of its self-driving vehicles in Arizona in March. Neither Uber nor the family’s attorney has released any details about the settlement.

Elaine Herzberg was crossing a street in Tempe, Arizona, when she was fatally struck by a self-driving Uber. Following the fatal crash, Uber took its 94 test vehicles off the roads.

The crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In the video footage of the accident, the backup driver appears to be distracted leading up to the crash. However, the pedestrian also looks like she did not acknowledge there was a vehicle approaching her.

“Unfortunately, this will not be the last time someone is hit by a self-driving car, as they are tested more frequently. Drivers and pedestrians must continue to exercise caution while on the roads,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
