Two Wheelchair Bound Pedestrians Fatally Struck Just Days Apart

A pedestrian in a wheelchair was fatally struck by a drunk driver while crossing the street in San Bernardino Sunday night. The crash happened at the intersection of Glasgow Avenue and Pacific Street around 9:17 p.m.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials say the driver of a white sedan was heading west on Pacific when he crashed into the pedestrian. The pedestrian was crossing Glasgow from north to south when he was fatally struck.

The driver, identified as Steven Ragsdale, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. However, police say he was not at fault for the crash. The pedestrian entered the crosswalk illegally, directly in the vehicle’s path. The victim has not yet been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

This fatal crash comes on the heels of a similar incident in San Jacinto just a few days earlier. A wheelchair-bound pedestrian was struck while crossing San Jacinto Avenue on Wednesday. The victim died from his injuries later that day.

“The driver might not have directly been at fault for the crash, but he should not have been behind the wheel while intoxicated,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
