Are You Still Driving Around with Recalled Airbags?

Despite extensive media coverage on the issue, many motorists are still driving around with recalled airbags in their vehicles. Now, a public interest group in Riverside County is working to make residents aware of the dangers of Takata airbags.

Airbag Recall: Southern California is a group of politicians, police officers and community activists dedicated to helping residents check their vehicles for airbag recalls. Last year, the Takata airbag debacle made local news when a Corona woman died after her airbag exploded. On September 30, 50-year-old Delia Robles was killed when her 2001 Honda Civic struck a pickup truck at 25 mph. The Honda’s driver’s side airbag exploded, spraying shrapnel at the driver.

At last week’s news briefing on the topic, Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey commented that the community must work together to address the hundreds of thousands of vehicles in Riverside County that still have defective airbags.

Which Vehicles have Recalled Airbags?

The Takata airbag recall now includes 42 million vehicles in the U.S. Vehicles that are at the highest risk of having defective airbag inflators are 2001-2003 model year Hondas and Acuras. The airbags can explode during very minor accidents, making even minor fender benders potentially fatal.

“Please check AirbagRecall.com to see if your vehicle contains a defective airbag. Don’t risk your life by driving around with airbags that could explode,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
