Sheriff’s Vehicle Struck at Hesperia Intersection

A sheriff’s vehicle was involved in a traffic collision Thursday morning in Hesperia. The accident occurred around 7:53 a.m. at 11th Avenue and Manzanita Street. The unmarked sheriff’s vehicle was traveling north on 11th Avenue when it was struck in the intersection by a westbound SUV.

According to police, the driver of the SUV had stopped at the stop sign on Manzanita but failed to yield to the sheriff’s vehicle, which had the right of way. The SUV continued into the intersection, where the traffic collision occurred.

No one was treated for injuries as a result of the crash. It is not clear whether the driver was ticketed for the incident. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, failure to yield at a stop sign is 2.6 times more likely to end in a fatality than failure to yield at a traffic light.

“Drivers sometimes treat stop signs as ‘suggestions’ that they should stop. In reality, stop signs are just as important to obey as red lights,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
