Reckless Driver in Victorville Arrested for Child Endangerment

A Hesperia woman was arrested for child endangerment after driving recklessly while under the influence with her children in the car. The driver, 25-year-old DeDeanne Marie Marler Johnson, was driving on Sultana Street in Victorville when she drove through a few yards.

Sheriff’s deputies received reports of a reckless driver in the area and responded to the scene around 1 p.m. They arrived to find the suspect attempting to leave the scene on foot with her two children. Deputies say Johnson appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, so she was arrested. The children are in the custody of Child Protective Services.

No one was hurt, but there was some property damage from the reckless driving incident. Johnson has been charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content above the legal limit, and cruelty or endangerment of a child. She pleaded not guilty to the charges and was scheduled to appear in court on September 27.

“We’re glad the children were not injured in this incident. Far too often, young children are the victims of an adult’s poor decision to drive under the influence.” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
