Multiple Semis Crash on I-15 near Barstow

Multiple semis were involved in a collision last month on northbound I-15 between Lenwood Road and Outlet Center Drive. According to scanner reports, the crash involved four semi trucks. One of the semis overturned in the collision, which occurred around 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17.

Two people reported injuries from the crash. Police shut down northbound I-15 for several hours. As a result, motorists on I-15 experienced major traffic delays. The cause of the multiple semi collision is under investigation.

Speed Often a Factor in Semi Crashes

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration cites speed as a factor in 23% of accidents in their Large Truck Crash Causation Study. What’s more, the only other factor that ranked higher in causing large truck crashes was the use of prescription or illicit drugs. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) also reports that the most common violation for these big rigs is speeding.

“The increasing number of big rigs on our highways presents a serious threat to the safety of other motorists. We need a better method of monitoring the speed of these huge trucks and ensure the safety of everyone on the road,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
