Memorial Day Weekend Crash Kills 3-Year-Old Girl

A Memorial Day weekend crash took the life of a 3-year-old girl and injured three others in Desert Center. A minivan carrying a Phoenix family was heading east on I-10 Saturday when it ran off the road and flipped multiple times. The 3-year-old, Bhavani Math, was ejected from the minivan.

Math was taken to JFK Memorial Hospital with her parents and 13-year-old sister. The 3-year-old was then airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center, where she passed away from her injuries. Her sister sustained major injuries and her parents reported moderate injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the minivan had a car seat in it, but it is unclear if the toddler was properly secured at the time of the crash.

Memorial Day weekend is the third deadliest weekend for drivers, according to 2010 data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In 2010, 397 people died in car crashes during the 3-day weekend, and 40% of those crashes involved alcohol. The only worse weekends for driving were Labor Day and Thanksgiving weekend.

“Our prayers are with the family of this little girl who lost her life. There are far too many deadly accidents during Memorial Day weekend,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
