Mazda’s Second Recall Offers Permanent Airbag Fix

Mazda has issued a second recall to fix their Takata airbag inflators. This recall is a permanent solution to the issue, superseding a January recall that temporarily replaced the inflators.

Nearly 80,000 Mazda cars and SUVs are included in the recall. These vehicles include model year 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012 CX-7, CX-9 and Mazda 6 vehicles. However, the recalls vary by state and vehicle age.

No More Ammonium Nitrate

In January, Mazda recalled these vehicles and replaced the older Takata airbag inflators with the same parts. These parts still used ammonium nitrate, which can deteriorate over time and cause the inflators to explode even in a minor accident. Mazda says the new inflators are safer, as they do not use ammonium nitrate.

“Drivers will be much safer without these dangerous airbag inflators in their vehicles. If you own one of the affected vehicles, make sure you schedule your repair as soon as possible,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
