Fatal Hit-and-Run Suspect Caught After Calling Tow Truck

Police have arrested the suspect responsible for a fatal hit-and-run in Barstow earlier this month. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of a desert racing truck struck a motorcyclist on Stoddard Wells Road around 3:30 p.m. The truck was traveling in the off-highway vehicle area about one mile west of Barstow Road when it struck the motorcycle. The truck driver then fled the scene.

The motorcyclist, 51-year-old Aaron Keith Wilder of Riverside, died at the scene at 3:38 p.m. About an hour later, CHP officers responded to a call from a towing company about a suspicious vehicle. The owner had requested to have his truck towed from the Love’s truck stop on Lenwood Road.

Officers arrived to find a Toyota Tundra with a missing hood and front end damage. The truck was impounded for evidence and the driver was arrested. The CHP is investigating the fatal hit-and-run, and it is not yet clear what the suspect is being charged with.

“We’re grateful for the towing company employee who had the insight to alert the police. Hit-and-run drivers need to understand that their cowardly and selfish decision to leave their victims has very serious consequences,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
