Elderly Man Dies in Big Rig Crash

An elderly man died in a big rig crash near Desert Center Wednesday morning. The crash occurred on westbound I-10 east of Dillon Road around 5:30 a.m. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 75-year-old Lodi man was driving a tractor-trailer when he drifted left, causing the tractor to enter the center divider. The truck then struck the dirt embankment, traveled over a peak and then down an embankment.

First responders transported the elderly man to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he passed away from his injuries. The coroner has not yet released the victim’s identity.

The crash caused oil to spill in the center divider. A Hazmat team responded to clean up the spill. Authorities closed the two left lanes on westbound I-10 for two hours following the accident. Police are investigating the cause of the crash, but they do not suspect alcohol or drugs at this time.

“Our prayers are with the victim’s loved ones during this difficult time,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
