DUI Suspect Arrested in Apple Valley Crash

A DUI suspect is in critical condition after causing a head-on collision in Apple Valley Wednesday night. Police say 60-year-old Delbert Carlile was driving his Mazda Miata east on Bear Valley Road when he swerved into oncoming traffic. He then crashed into a Jeep Compass in the westbound lane. The crash happened around 8 p.m. near De Varian Lane.

DUI Suspect Seriously Injured in Crash

The collision flipped the Jeep onto its side. The Mazda continued eastbound before coming to a stop in the center turn lane. Firefighters extricated Carlile from the vehicle. A helicopter then transported him to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Jeep driver, Shree Baez, and her passenger Coedee Ridens suffered minor injuries. Officials treated them at the scene.

According to the investigation, Carlile appears to have been driving under the influence. He is also accused of driving recklessly. Police continue to investigate the DUI crash. Anyone with information should contact the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station at (760) 240-7400.

“Once again we’re reminded that drunk driving has serious consequences. The occupants of the Jeep were fortunate to walk away from this crash without major injuries,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
