Drivers Killed After Exiting Vehicles on Freeway

Two people were killed on Interstate 8 in El Cajon Sunday after a driver crashed and another driver attempted to offer him assistance. They were both struck and killed by a passing vehicle.

Around 1:30 a.m., a driver lost control of his car in the eastbound lane and came to a stop in the second lane of Interstate 8 just before El Cajon Boulevard. Two drivers stopped to help, and one of them exited his vehicle and approached the accident scene.

The driver of the crashed car also exited his car. As he was speaking to the driver who stopped to help, both men were struck by a passing driver who failed to see them in the roadway. Both men suffered fatal injuries from the crash.

The other driver who stopped narrowly escaped being hit by the vehicle as well. Police are still investigating the crash, and they say alcohol or drugs could have been factors.

“Our thoughts are with the victims of this terrible crash. Please remember, if you have been involved in a crash, do not exit the vehicle until it is safe to do so,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
