A suspect was killed in a fiery crash in Cajon Pass after leading police on a high-speed chase Friday. Police responded to a domestic violence call at a residence in Huntington Beach just after midnight. The suspect fled in a white sedan, and at one point he made a U-turn and shot an officer. Fortunately, the bullet struck the officer’s badge and he was not hurt.

The driver continued the chase into Costa Mesa, and police tracked him by helicopter. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) eventually took over the pursuit, which led down the 55, 91 and 15 freeways at speeds over 100 MPH.

The suspect lost control and crashed into an embankment near Cleghorn Road, and his car burst into flames. Officers were unable to rescue him and he was killed in the fiery crash. The incident remains under investigation.

“We are so glad to hear that the officer who was shot is doing well. It’s a miracle that he was saved by his badge,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
