Is Dangerous Intersection in Palm Springs to Blame for Deadly Accidents?

A pedestrian was killed after she was struck in a deadly crash in Palm Springs Monday evening. The fatal crash happened at East Vista Chino near North Via Miraleste at about 6 p.m. According to police, the vehicle involved was traveling east on Vista Chino when it struck the pedestrian.

The driver stopped and rendered aid to the victim until police arrived. The pedestrian was then rushed to the hospital, where she later died. Police closed off Vista Chino from Via Miraleste to Avenida Caballeros for six hours to conduct the investigation. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the deadly crash.

Just last month another fatal pedestrian accident happened at the same intersection. According to KESQ, residents of the neighborhood say that motorists routinely drive faster than the 45 MPH speed limit. Last week there was another accident at the same intersection that knocked over a light pole. As of Monday night, the light has not been replaced. The intersection is the only legal crosswalk between Avenida Caballeros and Indian Canyon Drive.

“Pedestrians need a safe place to cross in this area, and this intersection clearly poses some serious safety concerns. Caltrans, who has jurisdiction over the roadway, has a responsibility to make this a safer intersection for pedestrians,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
