Coachella Festival Traffic Begins After First Weekend Concludes

Coachella Festival traffic has begun, as throngs of music lovers leave the valley Monday. Roughly 125,000 people attended the first weekend of Coachella. This year, their departure coincides with the Monday after Easter weekend—leading to a mixture of mostly freeway holiday traffic and “all over” festival traffic. Thus, drivers can expect back-ups on side streets throughout the area, as well as on freeways.

Coachella Festival Traffic Expected to be Heavy Westbound

Most Coachella Festival traffic is expected to be heading west toward Los Angeles. Campers at the festival have to leave by 10 a.m., so traffic will likely become extremely heavy around that time. Drivers can expect significant traffic from late morning through the evening. Check out road closures and alternate routes in our previous post on Coachella traffic.

Drivers also probably want to avoid the area around the Jefferson Street interchange project. While part of the project is now open and traffic is able to travel that way, traffic is still likely. Vista Chino in Cathedral City is also a potential trouble area, as a rehabilitation project there has caused lane closures in recent weeks.

“We encourage everyone leaving the festival today or trying to make their daily commute to drive cautiously and exhibit patience behind the wheel,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
