How to Avoid Traffic During Coachella Festival Weekends

The Coachella Festival kicks off this upcoming weekend, which means residents and commuters need to be prepared for road closures and inevitable traffic backups. The first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is April 14-16. The following weekend, April 21-23, is the second weekend of the event. The last weekend of the month, April 29-30, finishes off the month of music with the Stagecoach Country Music Festival.

These roads will be closed during all three weekends:

  • Avenue 49 from Hjorth Street to Monroe Street
  • Avenue 50 from Madison Street to Jackson Street
  • Hjorth Street from Avenue 49 to Avenue 50
  • Madison Street from Avenue 49 to Avenue 52

Drivers should expect delays on Avenue 50 from Madison Street to Monroe Street from now through May 5. The Jefferson Street freeway interchange project will also cause changes in traffic patterns throughout the month.

Alternate Routes to Take during Coachella Festival

Drivers who wish to avoid the area should use Washington Street, Jackson Street, Calhoun Street and Golf Center Parkway to travel north and south. Those seeking alternate east and west routes should take Fred Waring Drive, Miles Avenue, Avenue 48 and Avenue 54.
