Amazon Recalls Portable Power Banks for Fire Hazard

Portable power banks are the latest must-have tech item, but thousands of them are being recalled due to fire hazards. Amazon is recalling roughly 260,000 of its AmazonBasics power banks. According to the company, the battery in the devices can overheat and catch fire.

Amazon has received 53 reports of the power banks overheating, including one that claimed a consumer suffered chemical burns from the battery acid. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled devices and make sure they are unplugged.

Which Power Banks are Affected by Recall?

Amazon is contacting consumers who purchased the affected devices with information on how to return them for a refund. The recalled power banks include six versions of the AmazonBasics power banks: models 16,100 mAh, 5,600 mAh, 2,000 mAh with micro USB cable, 3,000 mAh, and 3,000 mAh with micro USB cable.

“If you have one of these recalled devices, stop using it immediately to avoid any potential problems,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
