5 Rules to Prevent Child Pedestrian Accidents

An 11-year-old girl was hurt in a pedestrian accident in front of Mesa Linda Middle School in Victorville Monday afternoon. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the child was struck at the intersection of Mesa Linda Avenue and La Mesa Road at 1:55 p.m.

When deputies arrived, the child was injured but breathing. She was airlifted to a trauma center for unspecified injuries. The driver remained at the scene after the collision and cooperated with authorities. The details of the incident are still under investigation.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 51,000 children are injured in pedestrian accidents, and 5,300 of them have to be hospitalized for their injuries. Help keep your kids safe on the roads by following these 5 rules:

Always follow the speed limit, and slow down even more if there are children in the road.
Always double-check before backing out of a driveway or parking space.
