Street racing is being blamed for a head-on collision that killed two young boys in Mead Valley Tuesday evening. The crash occurred around 5:40 p.m. on Oakwood Avenue east of Brown Street.

According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers, a blue Honda Accord and a black Nissan Altima were allegedly racing on Oakwood Avenue. The Accord was traveling on the wrong side of the road. Then the Honda crashed head-on into an oncoming Nissan Versa.

Two boys, ages 6 and 8, were riding in the Versa. Witnesses at the scene performed CPR on the boys, who were unresponsive, until first responders arrived. The were rushed to the hospital with critical injuries, where they were both pronounced dead. The driver of the Versa also suffered moderate injuries.

Police Searching for Street Racing Suspect

The Accord driver also suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. CHP officers say he will likely face vehicular manslaughter charges. The Altima driver briefly stopped after the crash, but did not remain at the scene. Police are searching for the driver of the black Nissan Altima, which they believe might be a 2005 model. Anyone with information about the suspect should contact the CHP at (951) 637-8000.
