A crash between a tour bus and a semi truck Saturday morning in Whitewater injured 17 people and caused the truck to catch fire. The tour bus crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. on westbound I-10, just west of State Route 62.

All 17 victims were occupants of the bus. The injuries sustained were all minor, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. The truck driver was not injured in the crash.

Semi Truck Catches Fire

Initial reports indicate that the semi truck rear-ended the tour bus. The truck then caught fire from a diesel fuel leak. Fortunately, firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and prevent further injuries.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) closed several lanes while they cleared the scene and investigated the crash. They reopened lanes three and four at 9:20 a.m.

“Thankfully this crash was minor compared to the deadly tour bus crash that occurred in Desert Hot Springs in 2016. Still, these semi truck accidents are happening far too often on our roadways, and we should be very concerned,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
