1 Killed in Coachella Valley Preserve Crash

Police have identified the driver killed in a crash in the Coachella Valley Preserve Monday. Karina Sandoval-Chavez, a 33-year-old Desert Hot Springs resident, died in the fatal crash. The accident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on Thousand Palms Canyon Road, a mile north of Ramon Road.

The vehicles involved in the collision were totally destroyed. Firefighters also had to cut both drivers from the wreckage. Sandoval-Chavez died at the scene, while the other motorist was taken to the hospital for moderate injuries.

Fatal Crash Closes Thousand Palms Canyon Road

The fatal Coachella Valley Preserve crash shut down Thousand Palms Canyon Road from Ramon Road to Dillon Road for several hours. The road later reopened around 7 p.m.
