1 Killed, 1 Injured in Fatal Head-On Collision

A driver was killed in a head-on collision in Phelan Wednesday morning. The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Phelan Road and Trinidad Road around 10:43 a.m. A Saturn SUV was traveling west on Phelan Road when the driver lost control and crashed head-on into a van belonging to a plumbing company. The crash sent the Saturn onto the northern dirt shoulder and overturned the van.

A witness says both vehicles appeared to be going the speed limit when the Saturn driver began swerving. The van driver tried to get out of the way, but ended colliding with the SUV. The witness was driving behind the van and was able to pull off the road to avoid being involved in the crash.

The driver of the van had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was then airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. Phelan Road was closed until about 1 p.m
