What Roads Should You Avoid During Coachella?

Say “Coachella” to anyone not native to the desert area and the Coachella Festival is likely the first thing to come to mind. Being the second-most in-demand concert in the world, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival inevitably causes some major traffic delays each year. The first weekend has ended, and some 100,000 attendees headed back home, clogging desert roads, gas stations and restaurants. The same is coming for Coachella Weekend 2, April 22-24.

Expect heavy traffic on I-10 near the Empire Polo Fields in Indio and major streets, such as Vista Chino and Indian Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, and Washington Street in Palm Desert.

If you’re a local trying to get during the next couple of weekends, it’s probably best to stick to side streets to avoid the crowds.

“While the Coachella Festival is a popular event and a nice source of revenue for our community, the traffic it creates is inevitable. If you have to be out in it, allot yourself extra time to get to your destination and drive safely,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
