Watch Out for These Dangerous Drugs

Patients with various medical problems rely on a plethora of different medications to help them get better and improve their symptoms. Unfortunately, there are many dangerous drugs on the market that can do more harm to patients than good.

Watch Out for These Dangerous Drugs:

  • Xarelto: This blood thinner is linked to serious side effects, including internal bleeding, brain bleeds, and death.
  • Gynocologic Power Morcellator: This surgical tool is widely used to laparoscopically remove uterine fibroids or perform hysterectomies. However, it can spread cancer which was previously undiagnosed, and can worsen survival in those patients.
  • Risperdal: Used for treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, this drug’s side effects include gynecomastia, characterized by breast development in boys and young men.
  • Actos: Prescribed for patients with Type II Diabetes, this drug is associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer. On April 7, 2014, a federal jury found that the manufacturer, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, acted with wonton and reckless disregard. The jury ordered $9 million in punitive damages.
  • Mirena IUD: This intrauterine birth control device is also used to treat heavy menstrual bleeding. But the device can migrate and perforate the uterine wall and move through the abdominal cavity.
