Victim of Fatal I-10 Rollover Crash was not Wearing Seat Belt

An Arizona man was killed in a rollover crash on I-10 in Desert Center Saturday. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials say the driver of a 2001 Toyota was traveling east when she lost control of the vehicle. The Toyota drifted to the south and rolled over several times. The crash happened around 6:30 a.m. just west of Eagle Mountain Road.

The driver, a 32-year-old Toni Jameson from Garden Grove, sustained minor injuries in the crash. Her passenger, 45-year-old Anthony Garcia, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:52 a.m.

According to the CHP, Garcia was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The fatal rollover crash is under investigation.

Not wearing a seat belt makes you 30 times more likely to be ejected from a vehicle during a crash. More than 75% of people who are ejected from a vehicle in a fatal crash die from their injuries.

“It’s so devastating to know that this victim might still be alive if he would have just worn his seat belt,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
