Why Did Tesla Driver Crash Into Apple Valley Building?

A Tesla driver crashed his vehicle into a building in October in Apple Valley. The crash happened around 4 p.m. at the 18000 block of Outer Highway 18.

Police say the Tesla driver crashed into the building after he missed a turn. The car jumped a 10-foot gap between the parking lot and the building, then crashed into the building. The building was formerly home to High Desert Urology, but it was vacant when the crash occurred.

The driver was not injured in the collision. The building sustained some structural damage, including a damaged electrical panel.

Police have not said whether the Tesla driver was using any of the vehicle’s Autopilot features. The Autopilot system has been linked to several crashes, including a recent crash with a tour bus in Germany.

“We don’t yet know the details of this crash, but it seems likely the driver was somehow distracted and not keeping his full attention on the road,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
