Surviving Victims of Deadly Tour Bus Crash File Lawsuit

Three people who were injured in last year’s deadly tour bus crash in Desert Hot Springs are suing multiple entities, including two cities. The plaintiffs are Los Angeles residents Jose Santos Hernandez, Idalia Arevalo and Pilar Medrano. The three were passengers on the USA Holiday bus that crashed into a big rig last October. The bus crash on I-10 west of Indian Canyon Drive killed 12 passengers and the bus driver. Thirty-one passengers on the bus suffered injuries.

Hernandez, Arevalo and Medrano filed the lawsuit in Riverside County Superior Court. They name the estate of the bus driver, Teodulo Elias Vides, as well as the big rig driver, Bruce Guilford. The plaintiffs allege both drivers were negligent behind the wheel prior to the crash.

The victims also name the cities of Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs in the lawsuit, as well as Riverside County and Caltrans. The lawsuit claims they failed to provide adequate lighting along I-10, where construction was taking place.

Cause of Deadly Tour Bus Crash Not Determined

Last year the NTSB determined the bus had several tires that were not compliant with federal regulations. However, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) continues to investigate the cause of the deadly tour bus crash.

“There’s no doubt these victims endured physical and mental trauma because of this crash. Who is ultimately responsible for their suffering is yet to be determined,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
