Pregnant Woman Hurt in Yucca Valley Hit-and-Run

A pregnant woman was injured in a hit-and-run in Yucca Valley last week. According to police, 28-year-old Aracely Medina was driving a Honda Accord westbound on Antelope Trail when she ran the stop sign at Grand Avenue, crashing into a Saturn Vue in the intersection. The collision happened around 8:20 p.m.

The impact caused the Saturn to flip onto its side. Medina pulled over just past the intersection and fled the scene on foot. The pregnant woman, 36-year-old Valerie Torres, and her 9-year-old daughter were transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center. The 9-year-old was treated and released, but Torres had to be monitored in labor and delivery. No update on her status is available.

Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested

Authorities contacted the hit-and-run suspect around 11 p.m. She admitted to driving the Honda without a driver’s license and fleeing the scene. Police then arrested her for felony hit-and-run causing injuries.

“If the driver would have stopped to help the victims, she might have suffered some consequences for driving without a license and running the stop sign, but those are minor compared to the felony charge she now faces for fleeing the scene. Stopping after you’ve caused an accident is not only morally imperative—it is the law,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
