Overturned Tractor-Trailer Creates Big Hole on I-15

An overturned tractor-trailer caused major delays on northbound I-15 in Victorville Friday morning. The crash happened around 4 a.m. north of Mojave Drive, when the driver lost control of the trailer, causing it to overturn. The trailer crash caused a 40-yard gouge in the No. 2 lane.

Two lanes were shut down while the scene was cleared and the roadway was repaired. Northbound traffic was significantly backed up during the cleanup. The lanes were cleared around 10 a.m., but traffic remained backed up past Bear Valley Road for a while. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

According to the Department of Transportation (DOT), tractor-trailers and other commercial trucks are responsible for 500,000 accidents every year. Ten percent of those end in at least one fatality. With the long hours truck drivers are often subjected to, fatigue is frequently a factor in these crashes.

“Our roadways are constantly being affected by these big rig crashes,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group. “We need to consider the obvious imbalance in physics on our highways, and rebalance the rules for public safety.”
