Mother and Son Killed in Apple Valley Crash

A mother and son were killed Tuesday night after their vehicle was T-boned in Apple Valley. The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Tamiani Road and Sitting Bull Road around 6 p.m.

Driver Failed to Yield at Stop Sign

The mother and son were traveling north on Tamiani Road in a Saturn Ion. According to a witness, the driver then failed to yield at the stop sign at the intersection of Tamiani and Sitting Bull. Motorists traveling east and west on Sitting Bull Road do not have a stop sign. Thus, the driver of a pickup truck heading east on Sitting Bull Road truck did not stop when the Saturn entered the intersection. The pickup truck T-boned the Saturn, causing it to roll over several times.

Officials pronounced the Saturn passenger, 16-year-old Ruben Contreras, dead at the scene. His mother, 34-year-old Jacqueline Contreras, was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center. She died from her injuries at 7:17 p.m. The Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station is investigating the fatal crash.

“We are heartbroken to hear about this devastating accident. This is a solemn reminder that we must always fully stop at stop signs. Failure to yield can have devastating consequences,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
