Infant and Grandfather Killed in New Year’s Day Crash

An elderly man and his infant grandson were killed in a New Year’s day crash on I-15. According to the Barstow California Highway Patrol (CHP), 79-year-old Las Vegas resident Abraham Jones was traveling north in a Nissan Altima when he was rear-ended by an Infiniti G35.

The crash was reported around 4:45 a.m. just south of Mountain Pass. CHP officers say the drivers were traveling in dense fog when the collision occurred. Jones got out of the Nissan after the crash and was standing behind it when a second vehicle struck the driver and the vehicle just minutes later.

Jones and his 2-month-old grandson Timol Jenkins Jr., who was sitting in the middle rear seat of the Nissan, were both killed in the second crash. The vehicle’s three other occupants were seriously injured and taken to University Medical Center in Las Vegas for treatment. The CHP is still investigating the fatal New Year’s Day crash. While fog appears to be a factor, alcohol and drugs do not seem to be involved.
