Gilman Springs Road Crash Injures 3

Three people suffered injuries in a crash on Gilman Springs Road near San Jacinto Sunday morning. According to Cal Fire, the accident occurred around 1:45 a.m. near the Golden Era Golf Course and Crestview Drive.

Firefighters extricated at least one victim from a vehicle. The accident happened near the Church of Scientology Movie Production center. However, it is unclear how many vehicles were involved in the crash. Three people were taken to the hospital following the accident.

A Crash a Week on Gilman Springs Road

Gilman Springs Road experiences about a crash every week, according to Press-Enterprise. The 12-mile, two-lane road connects the San Jacinto Valley to State Route 60. There have been about 28 fatal crashes on the road since 2006. According to the California Highway Patrol, the fact that Gilman Springs Road is heavily traveled during weekday commute hours contributes to crashes.

Improvements Seen with Road Repair Project

Beginning in 2013, Riverside County initiated a five-phase safety improvement project for the road. Safety improved significantly after the county completed the first two phases of the project. The area repaired east of Sanderson Avenue saw a 33% reduction in crashes annually. The project is ongoing and is set to continue through spring 2020.
