Fatal Highway Pedestrian Crash Shuts Down I-15

A fatal highway pedestrian crash closed down all lanes on I-15 Thursday morning. The crash occurred at 1:07 a.m. on northbound I-15, just south of Kenwood Avenue.

Victim was Struck while Standing Outside Vehicle

Police say a silver BMW sedan was pulled over on the northbound freeway around 1 a.m. A 26-year-old Chino man exited the vehicle to retrieve something from the trunk. That’s when a northbound Hyundai struck the man, tossing him onto the freeway lanes. Police have identified a 59-year-old Oak Hills man as the Hyundai driver.

Firefighters pronounced the BMW driver dead at the scene. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers closed down three northbound lanes at the crash site, diverting traffic to the bypass lanes. The fatal highway pedestrian crash remains under investigation.

Another Fatal Highway Pedestrian Crash Occurred Just Days Earlier

Sadly, this is not the first time a driver has been killed while standing outside their vehicle. In fact, just last week a pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle on I-15 near Baker. The victim was standing outside a vehicle that was pulled over when the crash occurred.

“The shoulder lane is there for emergency stopping, but that doesn’t make it safe to stand outside your vehicle along the highway. If you have to pull over on the highway for an emergency, it’s best to wait inside your vehicle until police arrive, if possible,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
