Stray Dog Bites And Injures 3-Year-Old Cathedral City Girl
March 8, 2012
A 3-year-old girl from Cathedral City, California, suffered serious injuries earlier this week when she was attacked and bitten by a stray dog. According to reports from KESQ News, the attack took place around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday outside the girl’s home on Rancho Vista Drive.
The girl was with a family friend that evening when the stray dog approached her. It lunged forward unprovoked and bit her on the cheek, leaving deep lacerations on her face. The dog then turned and ran away.
The child’s father came running out after hearing her crying and called for an ambulance. A spokesman for the Cathedral City Police Department, Lt. Chuck Robinson, stated that the child was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center, where she required 150 stitches to close the wounds on her face.
Data from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinarian Medicine shows that the majority of dog bite victims are children, and that the animal’s bites result in approximately 15-20 fatalities in our country per year. Dog bites are especially dangerous to children because of infections that can develop in the wound.
The Palm Springs Dog Bite Injury Lawyers with the Walter Clark Legal Group would advise anyone who has been bitten by a dog to seek immediate medical attention and to try to find the owner of the animal to determine if it’s up to date on all of its vaccinations.
