A construction worker was seriously injured after he was struck by a train in Victorville Wednesday morning. Police say the man was working on a lift machine around 6:30 a.m. when he attempted to cross the train tracks and was struck by the oncoming BNSF freight train. The accident occurred near the intersection of D Street and Sixth Street.

The victim was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital with major head trauma. According to police, he was conscious and breathing when first responders arrived.

A witness says the victim was blowing his horn on the lift machine right before he was struck by the train. The railroad’s crossing lights appeared to be in working condition at the time of the crash. It is unclear why the lift was crossing the track at that time.

Sixth Street was closed all day between E and D Streets. BNSF Police are investigating the accident.

The construction workers were working on a Caltrans I-15 project that will reconstruct three interchanges and widen the Mojave River Bridge.

“We’re praying for the victim’s recovery. We hope the authorities are able to get to the bottom of this so that this never happens to another construction worker again,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
