Avoid Traffic During the Thanksgiving Holiday

Higher gas prices don’t seem to have slowed down holiday traffic. According to the Automobile Club of Southern California, approximately 3.87 million Southern California residents will be traveling this year. That is the highest number of SoCal holiday travelers in a decade, and an increase from 3.74 million last year. About 86% of those travelers will be driving to their destinations this year.

Avoid Traffic This Thanksgiving

According to experts, the worst times to get on the road for Thanksgiving week travel will be Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Between normal rush hour traffic and the extra holiday drivers, traffic is guaranteed to be hectic. According to the Auto Club, the worst time for traffic will be between 3:15 and 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Desert residents should stick to side streets to avoid the inevitable traffic on the freeways, particularly I-10. Suggested alternates include Highway 111, Varner Road, Fred Waring Drive and Dinah Shore Drive.

Fortunately, Caltrans has suspended road work from 6 a.m. Wednesday through 6 p.m. Monday, so there should not be any lane closures during that time.

“If you will be traveling over the holiday, be sure to allot extra time for traffic and continue to practice safe driving habits,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
