7 Steps to Take if You Are Injured in a Truck Crash

One person was injured in a truck crash at the intersection of Dinah Shore Drive and Crossley Road in Palm Springs last Thursday morning. Police say a truck and sedan collided just before noon. The crash cause the sedan to then hit a police cruiser that was stopped at the intersection.

The officer in the police car was uninjured and the sedan driver was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The vehicles involved in the crash were reportedly and 18-wheeler and a BMW. The accident caused traffic delays for about an hour before the scene was cleared.

Crashes involving big rigs injure more than 100,000 people every year in the U.S. The problem has become a rapidly growing epidemic around the country.

If you are injured in a truck crash, follow these steps right away:

  1. Check on everyone involved in the accident to see if anyone else has been injured.
  2. Take note of your injuries and take photos of them as soon as you can. Most of the time, the occupants of the other vehicles involved in a truck crash are more likely to be hurt than are the occupants of the truck.
  3. Call 911 or instruct someone else to do so if you are unable. Once the police arrive, give them a full account of the accident and your injuries.
  4. If there were any witnesses, get their information and their account of what happened. If they are willing, have them give their account to the police for the official report.
  5. Seek medical attention as soon as possible. There is a lot that transpires in the wake of a truck accident, but the most important thing for you to do is to get treated for your injuries.
  6. Contact your auto insurance company and alert them of the accident.
  7. Contact an experienced truck accident attorney to discuss your options for recovering compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
