7 Motorcycle Tips for Riding Safely at Night

A Victorville man was killed in a recent motorcycle crash in Hesperia. Police say a motorcycle and a Chevrolet Tahoe were headed east on Bear Valley Road when the motorcycle rear-ended the Tahoe. The impact launched the motorcycle onto the curb line of the westbound lane. The motorcyclist died at the scene.

The fatal motorcycle crash, which occurred around 2:19 a.m., closed down Bear Valley Road between Hesperia Road and Second Avenue until noon. The Hesperia Sheriff’s Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash and a cause is still unknown.

If you’re riding at night, here are 7 tips to stay safe on the road:

  1. Wear something bright that reflects light and add reflective decals to your motorcycle and/or helmet.
  2. Ensure that your front and rear lighting is bright. If your lights are dim, you can replace them with bright LED bulbs.
  3. Adjust your headlights so you can see at least 100 yards ahead.
  4. For extra light, add dual running headlights to the motorcycle.
  5. Choose a rearview mirror that provides a complete view of traffic behind you.
  6. Make sure your windshield is clear, not tinted.
  7. Only ride as fast as you can see. This technique will give you enough room to stop completely or quickly maneuver out of the way if necessary.

“Motorcycle accidents are more likely to occur at night, so it’s crucial to take the proper steps to ensure your safety if you’re riding at night,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
