3 Killed in Fiery Plane Crash in Riverside

Three people died in a fiery plane crash in Riverside Monday afternoon. The Riverside Fire Department responded to a call around 4:40 p.m. in a neighborhood about a half-mile northeast of Riverside Municipal Airport. The Cessna 310 aircraft crashed into two homes, starting a blaze that completely engulfed the homes. The crash completely destroyed both homes and damaged a few others.

Three people died at the scene. Two others suffered serious serious injuries and are in the hospital. All the victims were passengers on the airplane and not residents in the homes. However, officials have not yet released the victims’ identities.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the six-seater plane departed Riverside for San Jose. Shortly after taking off, it crashed into the two homes near Central Avenue and Streeter Avenue, half a mile away from the airport.

Residents in at least 40 homes across Dewey Avenue evacuated as a precaution. The Red Cross set up a volunteer center at 5505 Dewey Avenue to aid residents. Officials say the plane occupants were San Jose residents who were traveling home from a cheer conference at Disneyland.

Did Weather Contribute to Fiery Plane Crash?

Riverside County experienced some rain storms Monday. The area was also under a flash flood warning when the crash occurred. However, officials have not determined if weather was a factor in the fiery plane crash.
