91-Year-Old Man Killed In Five-Vehicle Cathedral City Crash

February 23, 2012

A 91-year-old man was killed Thursday in a five-vehicle collision in Cathedral City, California. According to reports from The Desert Sun, the accident happened just after 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Date Palm Drive and Ramon Road.

Officers with the Cathedral City Police Department say that a man driving a Ford F-550 delivery truck sideswiped a parked Sun Line Transit Agency bus moments before plowing into the rear-end of the 91-year-old victim’s PT Cruiser. The impact of the collision pushed the Cruiser into the rear of a Lexus SUV that was stopped at a traffic light. All three vehicles then collided with a Ford Mustang after being pushed into the busy intersection by the truck.

Witnesses say that the driver of the truck was visibly shaken following the crash.

The driver of the delivery truck was critically injured and taken to Desert Regional Medical Center to receive treatment. A passenger in the Lexus was also treated after complaining of pain. The driver of the PT Cruiser was also brought to the hospital, but was declared dead shortly after arriving.

Investigators say they will continue to look into the events leading up to the crash by examining surveillance footage of the accident.

The Palm Springs Car Accident Attorneys with the Walter Clark Legal Group would like to send their condolences to the family of the victim for their loss due to this tragic accident.

Ford Motor Company Introduces The First Inflatable Seat Belt

February 16, 2012

A new technology aimed at keeping motorists safer in the event of a crash has hit the automotive industry. According to reports from KESQ News, Ford Motor Company has introduced the first-ever inflatable seat belt.

The car manufacturer explains that in the event of a collision, an airbag within the seatbelt will burst though the fabric of the belt, providing extra padding and protection to the accident victim. As an extra safety measure, the company says that the bags use cold, compressed gas to inflate rather than the traditional heat and energy producing chemical reactions of older airbag systems.

With most injuries in an accident being inflicted on the neck, back, chest, and head–all of which are in contact with a safety belt–experts say that the new technology will help to minimize the damage to those parts of the body.

Ford says that the belts debuted in last year’s Explorer model with great success, and they plan to market the belts as a standard feature on all vehicles soon.

The Palm Springs Car Accident Lawyers with the Walter Clark Legal Group know that wearing seatbelts can increase your survival chances by as much as 50% if you’re in an accident, and they are hopeful that his new technology will create a higher standard of safety within the industry. They would also like to remind motorists to buckle up every time they get in a vehicle

Lawsuit Filed Against Insurance Company After Repeated Denials Of Claims

February 9, 2012

An 87-year-old doctor has filed a civil action lawsuit against a California health insurer after the company repeatedly denied claims for his in-home care. According to reports from KPSP 2 News, the lawsuit was filed on behalf of the doctor by a consumer watchdog group that is seeking class action status so other senior citizens in a similar situation with the company may join in.

The lawsuit, which was filed Tuesday in San Bernardino County Superior Court, claims that the insurance provider, Senior Health Insurance Company of Pennsylvania (SHIP), cheated potentially thousands of elderly Californians out of money by repeatedly delaying and then denying claims for reimbursement. The lawsuit also contends that the company committed a breach of contract by denying claims based on the fact that the home healthcare providers being used were not properly licensed, even though the state of California requires no such license.

The lawsuit asks the court to order specific policy changes that will stop the request for licensure information from care providers as well as the company’s requests for duplicate information. The lawsuit also asks that the company comply with the language of such policies.

Coachella Valley Law Enforement Targets Speeding Truckers

February 2, 2012

Truckers along I-10 will be under heavy scrutiny for the next few days as law enforcement in the area cracks down on moving violations made by commercial vehicles in the Coachella Valley. Reports by KESQ News, the Desert Hills Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility and other law enforcement agencies will be targeting speeding truck drivers in areas with high instances of accidents in an effort to curb the growing number of collisions involving commercial vehicles.

The Coachella valley area saw a dramatic rise in the number of commercial vehicle collisions this past year. Statistics show that 152 accidents involving large trucks happened in the area last year alone. That number is up from 120 the year before. Data also indicates that five people died, dozens of others were injured, and thousands of dollars worth of man-hours and materials as a result of commercial vehicle collisions.

Officers will be using a saturation patrol method, as well as the latest in speed-clocking technology to watch for and stop speeding truckers. This method has proven effective in the past at reducing speed and accidents on highways across the country.

The California truck accident attorneys with the Walter Clark Legal Group understand the dangers that these large speeding trucks can pose to other vehicles on the road.
