A San Bernardino bus crash on Highway 330 injured 26 people Sunday afternoon. The crash was reported at 2:10 p.m. after a shuttle bus carrying 22 people returning from a church retreat collided with another vehicle and flipped over. Two people sustained critical injuries and 24 others suffered minor injuries.

According to unconfirmed information from the California Highway Patrol, the bus was likely moving too fast when it rear-ended a Nissan Versa and rolled over. No one in the Versa was injured. The 20 bus passengers injured were taken to local hospitals via ground ambulance. All are expected to survive.

The San Bernardino bus crash shut down Highway 330 between Highland Avenue and City Creek for several hours.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently proposed a plan to help reduce the risk of ejection during a bus crash. The new standard would require bus companies to install advanced window glazing to their buses, which would reinforce the windows and help them to withstand the impact of a body hitting them in the event of a crash.

“We hope to see these new bus safety standards enforced soon, so that bus passengers will be  better protected in a crash,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
