2 Phelan Men Identified as Victims of Fatal Three-Vehicle Crash

Two people were killed in a fatal three-vehicle crash in Phelan Friday night. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responded to the crash at Phelan Road near Wilson Ranch Road around 11 p.m. Two sedans and a van were involved in the fatal collision.

Two Phelan men, reportedly the drivers of the two sedans involved, were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as 19-year-old Kase Chip and 22-year-old Anthony Soto. Three others suffered major injuries and were listed in critical condition. A fourth person involved suffered minor injuries. All four were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Three medical helicopters, three ambulances and three paramedic engines responded to the major accident.

The three-vehicle crash closed down Phelan Road in both directions for the rest of the night. The road was reopened sometime Saturday afternoon. The CHP is investigating the cause of the crash. It is unclear whether speed, drugs or alcohol were factors.
