Police are investigating two fatal motorcycle crashes that happened over the weekend. The first crash occurred in Desert Center Saturday, and the second happened in Yucca Valley Sunday.

A Las Vegas man died in the Desert Center motorcycle crash Saturday morning. Police have identified 49-year-old Michael Horns as the victim of the fatal motorcycle accident. The crash occurred at 10:24 a.m. at Milepost 12 on Highway 177. Horns was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later.

The next day, another motorcyclist died in a crash, this time in Yucca Valley. The fatal accident occurred on Twentynine Palms Highway around 4 p.m. Details of the crash are scarce, but police say the motorcycle collided with an SUV. The motorcyclist died at the scene. His identity has not yet been released. The SUV driver suffered unknown injuries and was airlifted to the hospital. Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

Both fatal motorcycle crashes remain under investigation. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be focusing its efforts on promoting motorcycle safety this month. According to the CHP, 476 motorcyclists died in crashes last year. Another 14,000 bikers were injured in crashes.

“Far too many bikers lost their lives in crashes last year. Please protect motorcyclists on the road by practice safe driving habits,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
