Student Struck in Crosswalk in Pedestrian Accident

A 14-year-old student was injured in a pedestrian accident while she was walking through a crosswalk near La Sierra High School in Riverside. The crash happened around 7 a.m. at La Sierra Avenue and Cochran Avenue. According to a witness, two students helped get the victim out of the street.

An ambulance then arrived and took her to Loma Linda University Medical Center for pelvic and internal injuries. She was in critical condition when she was admitted but has since progressed to stable condition.

The driver apparently stopped briefly, then left the scene. Police later pulled her over and detained her. It is still unclear exactly what happened—specifically whether the driver was trying to beat a red light or if she was just making a normal lefthand turn. Police are also unsure whether the victim was legally crossing the street. The pedestrian accident remains under investigation.

“With school back in session, drivers need to be especially cautious in and around school zones. Always be on the lookout for children crossing the street,” said Attorney Walter Clark, founder of Walter Clark Legal Group.
